To avoid accidentally eating poisonous mushrooms, I emphasized several times.
"Any mushrooms you pick must be checked by me first, don't let any poisonous ones get mixed in."
Both of them nodded and focused on searching.
It was Bailey Wright's first time in the mountains, and she was quickly attracted by various novelties.
Seeing that she was about to walk toward the edge of the cliff, I warned repeatedly: "The mountains are highly dangerous, don't wander off."
But Bailey displayed a terrifying smile: "Tell me, if I accidentally slip down, how would Simon react?"
I understood the implication behind her words.
"Since Simon isn't here, you don't even bother pretending anymore?"
Hearing this, Bailey's body stiffened: "You knew all along?"
I ignored her and continued searching for my own things.
Bailey glanced sideways, as if spotting something, and suddenly her foot slipped.
"Ah—help!"
I desperately grabbed her wrist, and my face was accidentally scratched by a nearby branch, leaving a bloody mark.
Simon Summers heard the commotion and rushed over, helping me pull her up.
Bailey cried and threw herself into his arms: "Simon, I just felt like someone pushed me from behind, I'm so scared."
At that time, only she and I were present at the scene, so her meaning was clear.
I couldn't be bothered to defend myself, quietly waiting for the judgment.
Simon Summers, however, was uncharacteristically silent.
He reassuringly patted Bailey Wright's back: "It's okay now, as long as you're alright."
After returning, Simon took the initiative to help me apply medicine.
His movements were gentle, his expression full of concern.
For a moment, I seemed to see the Simon of years past who treasured me.
But his next words were like a bucket of cold water, chilling me from head to toe.
He said: "I just saw it. Bailey just likes to throw little tantrums, don't blame her."
I looked at him in disbelief: "So you just let her slander me?"
"Aria, she's ill right now, we need to be more understanding." Simon sighed. "I apologize to you on her behalf."
Before I could speak, a loud crash came from outside.
Bailey Wright was curled up on the floor, the bowl of mushroom soup spilled, with traces of her lipstick still on the edge of the bowl.
"Bailey!" Simon hurriedly helped the person on the floor up.
She clutched her stomach, her expression pained: "My stomach, my stomach hurts so much!"
"What are you standing there for? Call 911!"
Simon Summers' shout made me jump.
By the time I came to my senses, the manager had already dialed the number.
The scene was chaotic for a while.
I quickly grabbed the hem of his clothes: "Simon, believe me, I didn't..."
Simon Summers gave me a cold glance, then shook me off.
"Aria Jenkins, you've really disappointed me."
I lost my footing and fell, my forehead slamming hard against a nearby pillar.
Ignoring the pain, I followed them into the ambulance.
Fortunately, the poisoning was mild, and Bailey Wright was soon transferred to a regular ward.
The doctor, with a grave expression, called Simon Summers into his office.
"What is your relationship to the patient?"
"She... she's my girlfriend."
The doctor seemed frustrated as he handed over the test report.
"Your girlfriend is three weeks pregnant, so you two should be more careful."
Bailey Wright... is pregnant?!
