"Not all of it. Look, it's hard to explain but I'm engaged to Adobi and she should get her fair chance of loving me and I should be available to her and only her. I'll be there for my son and I can be your friend. That's it."

"What if I want more? What if I want to be more than just your friend?"

"I can't be. It wouldn't be fair to you or Adobi or even myself. I miss what we had. I still think about you but that's as far as it will go."

"Jevan! Don't! Don't shut me out. It was supposed to be us. Me and you and our son living together. Me and you were supposed to get married and build a life with each other. It was supposed to be us!" I screamed into the phone as the walls around my heart crumbled for the guy I wanted so desperately.

"I'm sorry. I got to go now. I'll be by this evening to see Jason so I guess I'll see you as well."

He hung up and an idea sparked my mind and so help me, I was going through with it.

_______

It was early evening when Jason grew exhausted and drifted off to an early sleep.

Jevan arrived when I tucked our son in his bed. He knocked before entering. I wore my red satin robe and RiRi by Rhianna fragrance. It was my favourite.

"Sorry, you just missed Jason. He's sleeping," I said as I walked into the room he was standing in.

"Already?" he asked, looking at his watch.

"He had a long day," I answered, letting down the fresh weaves I had installed.

"Okay then. I guess I'll head out," Jevan said.

"No! Wait. We should talk about something," I insisted.

"What's that?"

"Are you really going to marry Adobi?"

"Blossom, like really?"

"Answer the question truthfully," I told him, "Are. You. Really. Going. To. Marry. Her?"

With every word, I undid my robe and tossed it to the floor.

I was standing in front of him. Exposed in my lace bra and matching panties.

"Blossom. This isn't the kind of woman you are."

"What makes you so sure?"

"Since when are you so desperate to the point of seduction? What's this all about anyways?"

"Because I want you back!"

"Listen to me. Cover yourself up and have some pride in yourself. Our son is in the house. What's wrong with you?" he snapped.

I sighed but picked my robe up and covered myself. Tears of embarrassment streaked down my face.

Jevan came towards me. "Hey. As I told you on the phone today, I'll be your friend. I want to see you happy. I want to see you live your best life."

"I can only do those things with you, Jevan. I love you. I never stopped loving you even when I was in the arms of another man. Our love never ended for each other back in high school. I was taken away from you."

I was a hot mess now.

Jevan pulled me into his arms. "Life is a bitch where shit happens," he said.

He didn't let me go until I stopped crying. Then his phone rung and he pulled away from me.

"I've got to go. I'll see Jason tomorrow."

He walked out the door and I trailed after him. I watched quietly as he got into his Range Rover and drove away, taking the love I thought was so great, so everlasting, so powerful, along with him.

My sorry attempt failed and I had the utmost respect for him that he was able to resist temptation.

Adobi was going to have the best husband in the world.

And I had to start over at love with a son in the mix.

Blossom's POV

"Jason! Don't run so quickly!" I called after my child.

"He's so energetic," Jasmine said.

"A definite Hollen," Evan added with a proud smile before he brought a drink to his mouth.

Jevan chuckled and I joined in. The four of us were at the park, enjoying the day today with Jason.

Jevan had invited his parents along so they hardly see much of their grandchild.

"You hardly bring him around. Why is that?" his father asked us.

"There's no excuse for that, dad. We do need to bring him around more often and have outings like this," Jevan responded.

"I would love that. Jason reminds me of you when you were that age. The resemblance and characteristics are so similar," Jasmine finished.

As they continued gushing and reminiscing on the good old days, Jason tripped and fell.

I quickly got up from where I was sitting and ran towards him.

Another gentleman reached him before I did. He picked Jason up and dusted him off.

"Are you alright, little man?" I heard him asking.

"Yeah. Thanks."

"Jason. Sweetie, are you hurt?" I asked upon reaching. I was panting already.

"Mommy. I'm fine."

"I told you to stop running so quickly. You could have hurt yourself!" I snapped with was unnecessary.

"Hey. He's just a kid being a kid," the guy intervened.

"I'm sorry. And you are?" I asked.

"Ben. Benjamin but everyone calls me Ben."

"It's nice to meet you Ben. And thank you for helping him up. I appreciate it."

"You're welcome.. Uhhh..."

"Blossom," I informed and held out my hand for a shake. Ben shook my head and smiled sweetly at me.

"Is Jason okay?" Jevan asked as he walked between Ben and me.

"I'm fine, daddy," Jason answered and went over to his father. "Ben picked me up and shook mommy's hand," he added.

"Ben?" Jevan questioned.

"Jevan?" Ben said, looking at him.

"You two know each other?" I asked, looking between them.

"Not really. I used to go out with Adobi," Ben clarified.

Jevan's jaw tightened. He turned on his heel with Jason and walked back to his parents.
