Chapter 31

1017words
"Something terrible is happening. My mom just got arrested and I'm here by myself..." I was in tears again.

"I'm coming to get you right now. I'm already out the door. Hold on. Okay baby?"

"Okay," I responded and waited by the door. The house was empty now. My mother was taken away to the police station without any further details as to what is actually going to happen.

After fifteen minutes, Jevan arrived. I quickly ran into his arms and he gripped me firmly against his chest. Then he opened the passenger door and I got in before he got behind the wheel and drove back to his house.

_________

I stood awkwardly by the 'world's largest table' while Jevan went off to wash his hands.

The Hollens were  about to have dinner and I felt like I was intruding although I shouldn't feel that way because I wasn't a stranger to their home.

A man, that resemble a much more mature version of Jevan, walked into the room. I saw him once before. I knew it was his father.

"Have a seat. Blossom? Isn't it?" His voice was calm yet intimidating.

"Yes sir. Thank you," I responded and took a seat at the far end.

Jada came in afterwards, singing a song with air pods stuck in her ears but when her eyes landed on her father, sitting at the head of the table, she quickly removed them, stopped her music and switched off her cell phone before tucking it in her pants pocket.

Jase entered shortly after. He sat next to his sister.

A rather sweet scent caught my nostrils and I couldn't help myself to turn in its direction. I found Jevan's mother entering with a pleasant smile on her face as usual.

"Ah. Hello Blossom. I wasn't aware you were joining us for dinner." She called to the maid to have another setting laid out in front of me.

Jevan came matching in at last. He landed a quick peck on my cheek and sat down beside me. He took my hand in his underneath the table.

"Mom, dad. I hope you don't mind but I've invited Blossom over for dinner tonight and I was hoping you'll let her spend the night here with us," Jevan said to his parents.

"Is your mother aware?" Mrs. Hollen asked.

"She's.. She's..."I stuttered.

"She was arrested earlier," Jevan continued for me.

All eyes darted to me. And it was at that moment, I realized something. They were all grey eyes, except for Mrs. Hollen's of course. Hers were a beautiful dark brown.

"What happened?" Mr. Hollen asked.

Jevan patted my back gently and I found the courage to speak up.

"I think I was a mistake, however, my mother's jacket contained a diamond bracelet that belonged to her employer. Mrs. Diamond. Brooke's mother. The police searched and found it in my mom's jacket and they arrested her but my mom swear she didn't steal it," I explained.

"I'm so sorry." Jada was empathetic to the cause.

"I am too," Jase said.

"We all are," Jevan added.

"They're talking deportation," I let out.

"WHAT? For your mother?" Jevan asked

"And me." I turned towards him.

"You know what, let's have dinner. We'll discuss a resolution afterwards," Mr. Hollen said and we agreed.

Dinner and dessert were in total silence. I felt terrible. I took my problems to them and wiped away the happiness from this happy family.

____________

"Blossom, we're going to the police station. We're going to bail your mother out and she'll be home in no time. Okay?" Mrs. Hollen said and she took her husband's hand in hers.

"Thank you so much Mr and Mrs. Hollen. I'm forever grateful." I had happy tears in my eyes.

They left and I ran into Jevan's arms.

"See? My parents are going to fix this," he told me right before we kissed.

Jada caught us in the act and giggled.

"Can I borrow her for a moment?" she asked her brother.

"Sure," he answered and left me with her cheery sister who took my hand and led me to her bedroom.

"I want to silk press your hair. If that's okay with you?"

"Of course," I answered and let out my incredibly thick afro from its puff.

"You know, I secretly want to be a hair stylist. To own my luxury salon with Mable floors, expensive chairs and decorations and the most unique equipment.

And large plants growing in pots in the corner to add that 'nature effect' for my clients as the cold breeze blow from my air conditioners."

Jada went on, "It would be a dream come true but I'm afraid to tell my parents."

"Why?" I asked.

" Because I don't want them to think that I want something so beneath the Hollens reputation. It's like a tradition that every Hollen gets employment at Hollen Tower. It's where my mom met my dad. He was her boss."

"The office romance," I said.

"So cliché these days," Jada joked and we laughed.

"Tada. You're done," she said after a few more minutes. We looked in the mirror and I couldn't believe my eyes. My hair was at my shoulders, so sleek and tamed.

"I believe you should talk to your parents about being a stylist. They don't appear to be stuck-up folks who wants to shove their dreams down their kids' throats."

"You're right about that. I'll take your advice."

______________

I went to find Jevan. His eyes scanned my hair and he smiled at me. "Just leave it to Jada to give my girlfriend a hairstyle."

"Do you like it?"

"It fits you but don't think that you got to have straight hair to be beautiful. Nothing compares to the natural state of your hair," he complimented.

I smiled. He took his hand.

What is with this family always holding people's hands?

We went into his bedroom. He cornered me against the door and started trailing soft kisses along my neck and shoulder blades. His hand went down to my sides and lifted me up.
